Free GEO Tools: 9 AI Search Audit and Visibility Checkers

A free GEO tool is one that checks, at no cost, either whether AI search engines can read and quote your pages or whether they already mention your brand. The two jobs need different tools.

Audit tools read your page the way a crawler does and score its structure, crawler access and markup. Visibility checkers ask AI engines about your brand and count the mentions. Most teams need one of each, and every tool below has a free version you can run today.

What each tool checks, and whether it needs an account, was read from the vendor's own page on 30 September 2026 and is linked in each entry.

Audit or visibility check: which one you need

The deciding question is what you want to know:

  • If AI engines never mention you, start with an audit. A page that crawlers cannot fetch, or that buries its answer, is rarely quoted.
  • If you want to know whether ChatGPT, Gemini or AI Overviews name you today, you need a visibility checker. No audit can tell you that.
  • If you need proof of traffic, Google Search Console reports Google's own numbers for free, and Google counts AI Overviews and AI Mode inside its Web search type.
  • If you have many pages, the free tiers differ most in volume: one audit reads up to 50 pages a scan, and one visibility checker allows three checks a day.

Which one to pick, by what you need

The right tool is the one that answers the question you actually have:

What you needWhat to use
Can AI crawlers fetch and read my pages?Seomator or ClayHog for a site-wide technical pass; Maveriko for one page with its fixes named.
Does ChatGPT or AI Overviews mention my brand today?Ahrefs AI Visibility Checker, or Semrush's free checker for a competitor comparison.
How do AI engines describe my brand?HubSpot AI Search Grader.
Did AI features send me any Google traffic?Google Search Console: the Performance report, Web search type.
Where do I rank against competitors in AI answers?Semrush's free checker for a quick view; Prismic's audit for a deeper one.

What Maveriko does not measure

We are one entry on our own list, so here is our ceiling, stated plainly:

  • No traffic, keyword-volume or backlink data — that needs a paid clickstream database, and guessing it would be worse than omitting it.
  • No measurement of whether AI engines cite you today. Maveriko scores whether a page is built to be cited, which is a different (and controllable) thing.
  • Site crawls stop at 25 pages, so a large site is sampled rather than covered. A single-page scan stays unlimited and free.
  • No scheduled or recurring crawls — every scan and crawl is one you start yourself.

The full scoring methodology publishes every check, weight and threshold behind those scores.

Frequently asked questions

Which free GEO tool should I use?+

It depends on the question you are asking, because GEO tools answer two different ones. For whether AI engines can read and quote your pages, use a free audit such as Seomator, ClayHog or Maveriko. For whether they mention your brand today, use Ahrefs' or Semrush's free visibility checker.

What is the difference between a GEO audit and an AI visibility checker?+

A GEO audit reads your page and scores what you control: crawler access, structure, markup and how quotable each passage is. An AI visibility checker asks AI engines questions and counts whether your brand appears in the answers — an outcome that changes by prompt and by week.

Do I need llms.txt or special schema to appear in AI search?+

Not for Google. Its documentation says there are no additional requirements for AI Overviews or AI Mode and no special schema.org markup to add; a page needs to be indexed and eligible for a snippet. Several audits here still check llms.txt, so treat that check as optional.

Are these GEO tools really free?+

Each has a free version, read from the vendor's own page on 30 September 2026. Most need no account; Semrush allows three checks a day without one, and Prismic asks for a company email. Paid tiers add tracking over time, more pages and competitor data.
