What is a GEO score?
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the practice of making content easy for AI answer engines to read, trust and quote. Traditional SEO gets you ranked; GEO gets you cited.
The two disciplines overlap but reward different things — WebAudit measures both from the same page fetch:
| Traditional SEO | GEO | |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | Rank in search results | Get quoted in AI answers |
| Key signals | Titles, links, crawlability | Schema, structure, direct answers |
| Trust currency | Backlinks | E-E-A-T: authors, dates, citations |
| Measured by | Rankings and clicks | Citations and mentions in AI output |
- Add Organization, Article and FAQPage structured data.
- Open every section with a one-line direct answer.
- Convert prose into lists and tables — the structures AI engines extract most reliably.
How the scoring works
Every score is built from 34 checks across 10 weighted categories — 100 points for traditional SEO, 100 for GEO. This list is generated from the audit engine itself — the full weights, critical gates and limitations are documented on the methodology page.

What is AI readiness?+
AI readiness is how prepared a page is to be found, read and cited by AI assistants. It combines retrievability (can AI crawlers fetch the page), extractability (schema, lists, tables, direct answers) and entity authority (does AI already know the brand). WebAudit measures all three as the GEO score.
What is a GEO score?+
A GEO score measures how easily AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews can read, trust and cite a page — structured data, scannable formatting, trust signals and direct answers.
How is the SEO score calculated?+
The SEO score is 100 points across indexability (robots.txt, sitemap, canonical, noindex), on-page elements (headings, title, meta description, image alt text), performance, security and link architecture.
Is WebAudit free?+
Yes — the Free tier is free forever: 3 full scans a day with SEO, GEO and Entity Authority scores, category breakdowns and the full Optimization Toolbox, and no sign-up needed for a score. Pro ($29/month, or $299/year) removes the daily cap entirely and unlocks the exact fix for every issue, full check evidence and unlimited saved report history. Every new account starts with 7 days of Pro free.
Do you store or share the pages I audit?+
WebAudit fetches the public page once, stores the computed result so your report has a shareable link, and never shares your audit history with anyone.
